Matthew Joshua Bailey developed his taste for film at a young age, spending most of his weekends watching movies on television and local movie theaters. After graduating from the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) with an Associate Degree in Information Technology, Matthew began creating “fan-made” music videos based on his favourite movies and animated TV shows. It was those videos, along with his knowledge of both classic and contemporary movies, that earned him the opportunity to study film at the University of the West Indies (St. Augustine, Trinidad).
In 2010, Matthew served as assistant editor on “The Singapore Promise : An International Inspiration Documentary” produced by the Forward Ever Foundation. Matthew has created “A Legally Black Blog”, where he critiqued, via written reviews, movies, TV shows and music albums. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Theory and Production in 2013, he began working for 3 Line Studios, an independent branding/advertising company specializing in film production and new media.
One year later, Matthew worked in the production and post-production phases of the company’s second feature-length movie “Sanskara” as 1st Assistant Director and Editor respectively. In addition, he co-wrote five feature-length scripts, including “Lynch”, with 3 Line Studios co-founder Christopher Anthony Din Chong.
Matthew has also edited a number of short-form videos for the 3 Line Studios Facebook and YouTube pages, along with a movie review series entitled “Waz D Scene?”, hosted by him. Currently, he is running a Soundcloud podcast called “Beers, Beats & Bailey”, where he reviews movies and TV shows with co-host Ricardo Medina.
